Friday Favorite Photo: Summer fun

This picture was taken in my backyard pool when I was a kid. I'm guessing it was taken in 1961 or 62 - way back when summer was three long months of nothing but fun and goofing around. That's me in the middle with my cousin Benny's arm around me. The girls are twins who lived across the street, the boy on the end was my favorite neighborhood friend, Jerry Affholter, the little guy is Mark Affholter, and the goofy kid in the middle is my cousin Derryl, who was visiting from Oregon.

It's funny how I remember this pool as so much bigger. I sure spent a lot of good times in it. I love the way I'm looking at Benny with such admiration, and the fact that he's giving devil horns to Jerry.

Love these photo's. How ironic that you're back on the East Side — going to buy a house!!!

You are looking at Benny like you think he's so cool! Love the house in the background with the ivy. Is it the house you grew up in? Lovely.

That's the garage behind the pool in this picture. The house was built in 1919 - a Craftsman bungalow - and I think the garage was built at the same time.

They've both been torn down.

My daughter, Melissa sent me the link to your blog asking if that really was me in the photo. Sure was a long time ago!

Jerry! Wow. How the heck did your daughter happen to stumble across my blog??? What a small cyber-world it is. I was just thinking about your family last weekend! Tell you mom I say hello. I'll write you a longer message on your blog.
